By the look of the New Delhi Railway Station on Monday morning, you wouldn’t have been able to guess that the cast of Tamasha was due to arrive on platform four. That’s because fans were not able to make it in time due to confusion about the name and arrival time of the train. READ: 'Tamasha' not autobiographical, says Imtiaz AliWe spotted some youngsters hovering around the stations’ entrance, asking about the stars, but the police refused to share any details. However, once the train arrived, the scene changed quite drastically. Ranbir
hai ye, Ranveer
nahin. After seeing so many cameras and tight security, many speculated that PM Modi was travelling in a Rajdhani while others thought it was an MLA or a minister. By the time passengers got to know it was Ranbir and Deepika, however, it was too late to call back the friend or relative who had just dropped them at the station.
As the train arrived, two men ran to the TC, who was standing near the engine, and asked, “
Bhaisahab, kaun aa raha hai? Ranveer aur Deepika?” The TC gave them an irritated look and replied, “Ranveer
nahin, Ranbir –
Ranbir Kapoor.” It was easy to spot their bogie, which was colourful, unlike the rest of the train’s red bogies, but for a while, no one came out of the train and the crowd went silent. Everybody on platform four gathered near the train, waiting to catch a glimpse of the stars. Sandy Arora, one of the passengers, said, “Imtiaz Ali frequently travels by train and his love for trains goes long back, don’t you remember
Jab We Met? He will be the first one to get down, I can bet.” And he did; with policemen shouting ‘
raasta do’.
There was a lot of cheering and applause when Ranbir and Deepika waved at the fans and got down from the train – he dressed in a T-shirt and jacket, she in a sweatshirt. They came to our
bogie! From boarding the train at Mumbai and posing with
nariyal paani to Imtiaz’s
chai ki talab at Vadodara and train
ka khana – the
Tamasha team shared all the moments with their fans online. Although they had booked a special compartment, the cast explored other compartments too. Harshita Singh, an MBA student who was travelling from Mumbai to Delhi, told us that everyone in the train knew that Ranbir and Deepika were travelling in the same train and that was the hottest topic of discussion during the entire journey. She said, “How could it not be? The stars even came to our bogie and clicked selfies. But the security was so tight that we couldn’t chat with them. We wouldn’t have been able to hear anything anyway because of all the cheering.”
It became an inconvenience: PassengersDeepika may have shot for train scenes in two movie –
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and
Chennai Express – but when she boarded a train in real life, an extra coach was added to accommodate the film’s team. While it added to the comfort of the cast, some of the passengers complained that they weren’t as comfortable during the journey. Yashashwita Rathore, who was in the compartment adjacent to that of the actors’, told us, “Yes, they came on time at Mumbai Central Railway Station, but so did we. Yet, we had to put up with a lot of inconvenience while boarding the train and then once again while getting down at Delhi. We had to wait for more than 15 minutes, so they could leave.” Most of the passengers, however, including the staff, told us that they felt like VIP when they deboarded, waving at people in the style. While #TrainMeinTamasha was trending on Twitter on Sunday, the tamasha in Delhi is yet to begin, as the stars are planning to travel by a not-so-frequently used mode of transport – a
tonga.
