Chinmayi, who performed bhajans and abhangs at a Margazhi concert recently, is miffed, as was apparently evident from her tweet yesterday morning. One concert in the Margazhi music season and have had my lifetime fill of classical music politics. Super glad Im in the film industry, she had tweeted. When we got in touch with a source close to the singer, we were told, Chinmayi had recently performed a Hindustani concert consisting bhajans and abhangs.
Her concert was supposed to start at 7pm but it was delayed. Many feel that it was deliberately pushed to 8pm, which is not a happening slot for this season. The reason given to her was that the Carnatic singer, who performed before Chinmayi, took till 7.30pm to wrap up though she was supposed to wrap up by 6. 30. Plus, the singer had already performed one of Chinmayis bhajans in her concert. So when Chinmayi later sung the same one, it sounded like a repetition. The audience attendance was also slightly thin, as the concert started late in the evening. Though, initially, Chinmayi took it as a coincidence, she was miffed when she later came to know that it was so called, politics in music.
The source adds, Chinmayi also wants to break the general myth that Hindustani concerts will not work during the Margazhi music festival. Now, she has plans to perform another Hindustani concert on a different platform that too, during Margazhi.
The singer also tweeted about how Hindustani music is not being given prominence in the sabhas during the Margazhi season. I cannot understand the major agitation against Hindustani classical music though. Adhellam sangeedhame illa some great musicians say. wrote Chinmayi on her social networking website.
