Stand-up comic Abijit Ganguly says his jokes have been plagiarised on Kapil Sharma’s show

Kolkota based stand-up comedian Abijit Ganguly has accused Kapil Sharma of plagiarising his jokes. He claimed on Facebook that 'The Kapil Sharma Show', in its 100th episode, lifted a chunk of his jokes on cricketers. When contacted, Abijit said, “I have a comedy routine which I’ve been doing since a while on how all good bowlers have been all younger brothers, because the elder brothers don’t allow them to bat.I posted this video online two weeks back and last night a friend called me and said that my entire routine was picked up by 'The Kapil Sharma show'.”
Abijit said the resemblance was uncanny. “I saw the show online in the morning, and they were performing my jokes, word for word,” he said. The gag in question was performed by actor Kiku Sharda in front of the guests — members of the Indian women’s cricket team.
When asked whether he was planning to take action, he said, “These are big guys and I've been advised that nothing will really come out of it. But I just wish they would acknowledge me, because as comedians, we take months to perfect a joke. I don’t want any monetary compensation. Just that, when a joke is stolen from you so blatantly, it literally feels like you've been robbed. Next time when I do the same bit, people may think I lifted it from there.”
Abijit adds, “Kapil or Kiku may not be behind it. Probably it’s the writers who got it, but they should be held accountable, and I hope it doesn’t become an industry practice to steal original joke routines.”
When contacted about the plagiarism accusation, Kiku replied with a polite, “No comment.”
