After arrest, Haryana women panel vice-chairperson faces action
Chandigarh: Two days after her arrest in the graft case, Sonia Aggarwal, the vice-chairperson of the Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW), is now facing administrative action, following a recommendation submitted by Monika Malik, the director general of the women and child development (WCD) department, on Monday.
Sources said in her report to P Amneet Kumar, the financial commissioner and principal secretary of the WCD department, Malik recommended strict action against Aggarwal, which could be immediate suspension or sacking from the post. Notably, the WCD is the parent department of HSCW for administrative reasons, and action against the office bearers is initiated by the governor on the recommendation of the administrative department concerned .
“Taking action is the prerogative of the govt. We shall forward the file to the CMO through the minister in-charge. The govt will take the call accordingly,” said reliable sources in the office of the administrative secretary of the department.
On Saturday, Sonia Aggarwal and her driver, Kulbeer Singh, were arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau for allegedly receiving a graft of Rs 1 lakh from a JBT in lieu of settling a complaint related to a marital dispute filed by his estranged wife. The trap was laid following a complaint by the victim teacher, who handed over the money to Kulbeer. Kulbeer confessed to accepting the graft on behalf of Sonia Aggarwal.
