Vijayawada: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Mangalagiri on Wednesday inaugurated its department of AYUSH, marking a significant step towards promoting holistic healthcare through the integration of traditional Indian systems of medicine with modern medical practices.

The department of AYUSH has been formally inaugurated by AIIMS Mangalagiri ED and CEO professor Dr Ahanthem Santa Singh, in the presence of academics (dean) professor Dr Desu Rama Mohan, medical superintendent Dr Rajashekar Mohan, deputy director (administration) Colonel Sashikanth Thumma, and medical officer (ayurveda) Dr Pushpanjali Akula.

The newly inaugurated AYUSH block has been established as an exclusive facility for the departments of Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy, reflecting AIIMS Mangalagiri’s commitment to integrating traditional systems of medicine with modern healthcare practices.

On the occasion, Dr Pushpanjali Akula announced that ayurveda pharmacy and panchakarma services will become operational shortly, enabling patients to access a wider range of evidence-based traditional therapies under one roof.

Speaking to the media on the occasion, professor Dr Ahanthem Santa Singh stated that AIIMS Mangalagiri is actively strengthening its AYUSH services and that Yoga and Siddha disciplines will be introduced in the near future. He further informed that two additional medical officers will soon join the department of AYUSH, enhancing the Institute’s capacity to provide comprehensive AYUSH healthcare services.
Emphasising the increasing interest in sports and the growing number of cricket enthusiasts and athletes in Andhra Pradesh, the AIIMS ED announced that AIIMS Mangalagiri will propose to establish a sports medicine centre to cater to the healthcare needs of sportspersons. As life expectancy in India is increasing and to meet specific healthcare needs of the old age population, it is also proposed to establish a geriatric medicine department, and with the already existing Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PMR) department, these facilities shall serve for holistic needs of the diverse group of patients in the state of AP & adjoining regions.
