Ahmedabad: A nine-year-old boy was allegedly attacked by a rottweiler outside a Lad Society bungalow, in the city’s Bodakdev area, on Tuesday morning. The boy received stitches for injuries to his head and above the right eyebrow, at a hospital nearby. The boy’s father has filed a complaint against the dog’s owners, alleging that the pet was intentionally and negligently left loose, which led to the attack on their child. The complainant, Dinesh Rot, 30, a native of Dungarpur in Rajasthan, does odd jobs at several bungalows in Lad Society. According to Rot’s complaint, he came to Lad Society around 10.15am on Tuesday with his nine-year-old son to work in Bungalow No. 16. He told police he went inside to work while his son sat on a bike parked outside, playing on the phone.
“My niece, Payal, came saying my son had been bitten by a dog. I rushed outside. A crowd had gathered around my son. There were teeth marks on my son’s head and the wound was bleeding. There was also a scratch mark caused by the dog’s claws above his right eyebrow.“
According to the complaint, the dog belonged to Bungalow No. 18 resident Alpa Rajput. Rot alleged that Alpa had just entered the society gate with the dog and entered her house, leaving the animal off-leash. The dog suddenly attacked the boy, the complaint states, adding that the child hid under a car to save himself. Rot told police he immediately informed Alpa about the incident after which she and her husband, Hitesh, accompanied by Rot, took the child to DHS Hospital near Vastrapur Lake.
Officials from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s cattle nuisance control department said, “A team comprising a veterinary doctor, a sanitary inspector, a dog catcher and a SRP personnel visited and inspected the site. The owners presented the pet’s vaccination record certified by a veterinary doctor, valid for a year. The pet dog is registered with AMC. A police complaint has been lodged in the matter. The owners have relocated the rottweiler to a farmhouse in Khambhat.” The dog is around four years old.
