Mumbai: Woman ends life under train, her baby survives
MUMBAI: A 24-year-old woman jumped in front of a running train with her ninemonth-old girl at Jogeshwari station recently. The woman died and the infant survived with minor injuries.
The woman had had a dispute with her husband, an auto driver, and it appeared to be a suicide case, said the police.
The deceased, Gayatri Jaiswal, was a housewife. She lived with her husband, Sushil, and their daughter, Niyati, at Jogeshwari (west). The incident was reported on May 19 on platform number 3 at Jogeshwari station. It was captured by CCTV cameras.
“CCTV has captured Gayatri jumping before the running train around 2 pm,” inspector Sanjay Patil said. “She was holding the infant. The baby landed between the tracks and did not come in contact with the train.”
The woman was pronounced dead at a public hospital.
