Airoli-Katai rd to cut travel time by 25 min
Thane: The under-construction Airoli-Katai naka freeway will cut down the travel distance between Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan and Badlapur suburbs by seven km and bring down the travel time by nearly 20-25 minutes once completed, MMRDA chief S V R Srinivas said.
Presently it takes between 35-50 minutes to cover the roughly 14 km distance from Kalyan Phata and Airoli toll plaza. Srinivas made the announcement after one of the 1.7 km long twin tunnels that are part of the freeway was drilled through the Parsik hills end to end on Friday evening in the presence of chief minister Eknath Shinde. One end of the twin tunnels being constructed 10 metres apart, starts from Kalyan Phata and opens up behind Bharat Bijlee plant at Airoli. Manoj Badgeri
