MG Windsor achieves 15,000 units production milestone: Reason behind its success
JSW MG Motor India has announced that the Windsor EV has achieved a significant production milestone, surpassing 15,000 units in India. Since its launch, the EV has emerged as the best-selling EV four months in a row (October 2024 to January 2025) and Windsor consistently garners around 200 bookings per day.
The Windsor is manufactured at the brand’s facility in Halol, Gujarat and MG also said that due to strong demand, production of the Windsor EV is set to increase. However, the company is expected to experience a temporary slowdown this month as it upgrades its facility. These modifications are being made in preparation for the launch of two new models under the MG Select channel, scheduled for the first half of 2025.
The Windsor EV gets a 38kWh LFP battery paired with a front axle-mounted motor which puts out 136hp of power and 200Nm of torque, it has a claimed range of 331 km. It gets four driving modes – Eco+, Eco, Normal and Sport. Using 45kW chargers, the battery can be juiced up from 0 to 80 per cent in 55 minutes. It also gets 3.3kW and 7.7kW AC chargers which can charge the battery from 0 to 100 percent in about 14 hours and 6.5 hours, respectively.
In terms of features, the Windsor gets a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless connectivity Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, rear AC vents, ventilated front seats, powered driver's seat, 9-speaker Infinity sound system, wireless phone charging, panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting and more. Safety-wise, it gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, all four disc brakes, front and rear parking sensors, ESC, and a 360-degree camera.
Now speaking of the reasons behind the success of the Windsor EV in the Indian market, the Windsor has gained significant popularity in India due to a combination of factors, including affordability, practicality, and strong features. The Windsor is positioned as a value-for-money electric vehicle (EV), making it accessible to a broader audience. It offers a decent driving range on a single charge, reducing range anxiety and making it a viable option for daily commuting and it is loaded too.
Biju Balendran, Deputy Managing Director, JSW MG Motor India said, “We are delighted with the response that the MG Windsor has been receiving and are grateful to our customers who have helped us cross the 15,000-unit production milestone. The CUV has been widely accepted by car buyers for its overall pricing and packaging, and for offering a luxurious business-class experience to customers. Smart initiatives such as BaaS, the buyback program, and a lifetime warranty, have all boosted consumer confidence in EVs. As we diversify our portfolio, we remain committed to bringing quality products to our customers at a faster rate.”
“Consequently, we are increasing the capacity of the facility at Halol to meet the rising demand for Windsor. Additionally, we are undertaking certain facility modifications to ensure readiness for new products under MG Select which is due for launch in the first half of this year. Hence, we anticipate a production slowdown during the month of February, which may temporarily affect our wholesales during this period”, he added further.
