Indian officials need to get better at explaining things to the public.
After a big airplane accident in Ahmedabad last month, the people in charge of investigating it (called AAIB) said the media got their report wrong. They said they only explained what happened, not why it happened, and that the news got it all mixed up. Then, a group of pilots also said the report didnât sound right. Instead of giving clear answers, it caused even more confusion.
The truth is, when people talk about serious things like plane crashes, itâs very important that they explain clearly so that everyone understands. But Indian officials often donât do a great job at that. What they think theyâre saying and what people actually hear can be very different.
This isnât the first time this has happened. When India and Pakistan had some tensions recently, the only clear message was that India didnât want things to get worse. But other important details, like about fighter jets, were left out. That led to rumors and confusion.
In todayâs world, news spreads fast, and if officials donât explain things properly right away, people will come up with their own versions of the story. Thatâs what happened with the plane crash. If the first press talk had been strong, clear, and had all the facts, the media wouldnât have had to guess or ask âsources.â
So instead of blaming reporters for getting it wrong, the officials should first make sure theyâre doing a good job telling the story right from the start.
