How to do Aadhaar card verification

Aadhaar is a crucial document and though it is not mandatory yet, everyone should have Aadhaar number given its increasing importance for financial transaction and government schemes.

But do you know that having Aadhaar card is not enough? As per Aadhaar officials and UIDAI helpline, if you do not use your Aadhaar for three continuous years then it may become inactive.

In case you have an Aadhaar number and in last three consecutive years you have not used it for any transactions such as linking bank accounts, PAN card etc. then it may get deactivated.

So, in case you want to verify whether your Aadhaar number is valid or not deactivated, follow these steps:

1) Visit the UIDAI resident portal - https://resident.uidai.gov.in

2) Enter your Aadhaar number and security code provided

3) Click on 'Verify' to know the status of your Aadhaar card

In case your Aadhaar number is deactivated, you can reactivate it by submitting an Aadhaar update form and your bio-metrics at the nearest Aadhaar centre. You need to pay a fee of Rs 25 at the enrolment centre for the update.

What is Aadhaar authentication?"Aadhaar Authentication” is a process by which the Aadhaar number along with demographic information (such as name, date of birth, gender etc.) or biometric information (Fingerprint or Iris) of an individual is submitted to UIDAI’s Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR) for its verification and UIDAI verifies the correctness of the details submitted, or the lack thereof, on the basis of information available with it.
  2. What are the benefits of Aadhaar?Aadhaar can be used in any system which needs to establish the identity of a resident and/or provide secure access for the resident to services/benefits offered by the system.
  3. Can I apply for Aadhaar if I don’t have required documents?Yes, even if someone in a family does not have required documents, the resident can still enrol if his/her name exists in family entitlement document.
  4. What to do if your Aadhaar enrolment is rejected?Aadhaar generation involves various quality checks therefore there are chances that your Aadhaar gets rejected due to quality or any other technical reason. So if you have received SMS that your Aadhaar has been rejected, it is recommended to re-enrol yourself.
