17 India-bound vessels with LPG, LNG, crude await transit near Hormuz

NEW DELHI: Seventeen India-bound ships — both Indian- and foreign-flagged — carrying energy products are waiting on the west of the Strait of Hormuz. TOI has learnt that while four of these are loaded with LPG, three are carrying LNG and remaining 10 have crude oil loaded in them.

So far, eight Indian vessels carrying LPG and another foreign-flagged ship carrying crude have crossed the conflict-hit strait to head to India since the war broke out. Green Sanvi carrying 46,500 tonnes of LPG and 25 Indian sailors, and Green Asha with 15,500 tonnes of LPG and 26 sailors, transited the Strait of Hormuz on Friday and Sunday.

Mukesh Mangal, additional secretary in the shipping ministry, said Green Sanvi is expected to arrive on April 7, and Green Asha on April 9. He added that at present, there are 16 Indian-flagged vessels in the Persian Gulf. He said it was not possible to specify a timeline for the return of these vessels to India, and the ministry is working with the external affairs ministry to arrange their transit through the Strait.
