NEW DELHI: After of gap of nearly two months, food inflation accelerated in late May due to an increase in prices of fruit, meat and milk but policymakers sought to downplay the spurt in prices saying it would moderate over the next 2-3 months on the back of favourable monsoon.
Data released by the commerce and industry ministry on Thursday showed the food price index rose 9.01% in the week to May 28, rising from the previous week's 8.06% while the fuel price index rose 12.46%.
Food inflation had moderated in the past few weeks after staying stubbornly high for several months.
