Tantuja posts operating profit of Rs 14.4 cr in FY19

Replying to queries at the at the assembly, state finance and industries minister Amit Mitra said that the PSU had posted a loss of Rs 12.6 crore in 2010-11 when the Mamata Banerjee government assumed power.
Mitra pointed out that the revenue of Tantuja has also gone up almost five-fold from Rs 55 crore in 2010-11 to Rs 252.9 crore in 2018-19.
The government is working on 176 cluster for textile and weaving industry. The number, he added, was 28 in 2011. “We have established 63 common facility centres as well,” he said.
According to him, in order to promote ‘Baluchari saree’, which has a GI tag, the state government has launched revival scheme for this special kind of ladies ethnic wear. “We have set up a separate showroom also in Park Street,” he added.
Along with Baluchari, Dhaniakhali and and Shantipuri sari have also bagged GI tag. “For weavers, we have constructed 6,300 worksheds in the state. Now, we are planning to add another 5,000 worksheds,” he added.
