AGARTALA: Based on inputs from military intelligence, the Tripura Police arrested eight
Rohingya migrants at the Agartala railway station on Saturday for allegedly illegally staying in the country. The migrants included three women and three children who were on their way to Delhi.
Police sources said the military intelligence Eastern Command shared the information regarding the presence of Rohingya in the city in the morning with the special branch, based on which police detained them from the station.
A case has been registered against them under the Passports Act, 1957 and Foreigners Act, 1946.
Those detained have been identified as Md Yousuf (23), his wife Ms Minara (30), Sayad Nur (25), and his wife Ms Sawkat Ara (21), Ms Jannat Ara (20).
Police said the Rohingya migrants had illegally entered Tripura from Bangladesh with the help of a local agent and were trying to leave the state.
