Muslims denied mosque entry for joining BJP

AGARTALA: The

minority morcha

of

BJP's Tripura unit

has alleged that

25 Muslim families

, who joined the

saffron party

recently, have been denied entry to a

local mosque

in

Madhya Tilla locality

of

South Tripura

in Shantirbazar sub-division.

SP (South) Manchak Ipper said, "It happened due to personal enmity among some individuals. We will take appropriate steps to secure the fundamental rights of citizens."

BJP's minority morcha president Md Jasimuddin alleged that the families have been getting threats and intimidations from CPM cadres after they deserted the Left party and joined BJP last month.

"The families were initially threatened with social isolation and stopping of government facilities. They were debarred from getting MGNREGS work and other government facilities as soon as they joined BJP.

A week ago, CPM cadres mobilised Muslim religious leaders to stop those families from entering the mosque," said Jasimuddin. When contacted, CPM state secretary Bijan Dhar denied the allegations. He said, "I have not come across such an issue so far."
