Widows from Vrindavan to present 1.5k Rakhis to PM
Agra: Widows from Mathura will present 1,500 special Rakhis to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan on Monday.
The Rakhis — all carrying photographs of Modi — have been designed and crafted by a group of old widows of Meera Sahabhagini ashram in Vrindavan.
Sulabh International vice president Vinita Verma said 10 women of the ashram would visit Delhi to present sweets and Rakhis to the PM on Monday.
“The organisation has received prior permission for five widows, including 94-year-old Manu Ghosh, who will tie Rakhis on the PM’s wrist. Manu has also made a Rakhi for the PM,” she said.
Meanwhile, hundreds of widows living in various ashrams celebrated Rakhsha Bandhan at Gopinath temple on Sunday, where Rakhis for the Prime Minister were also packed in baskets.
On the occasion, Rakhis were also tied on the wrist of Bindeshwar Pathak, the founder of Sulabh International, which takes care of around one thousand widows in Vrindavan.
