65 tubes of rubber adhesive used as intoxicant seized

Ahmedabad: A team from Isanpur police on Wednesday arrested a man with an intoxicant of a different kind. Altaf Shaikh, 42, was apprehended with around 65 tubes of adhesive solution used in fixing punctured tyres. The solution was intended for sale for intoxication, police said. Fumes of such a solution are often sniffed for a high. Isanpur police officials said that with New Year's Eve approaching, teams are on vigil to stop entry of narcotics into the city. Acting on a tip-off, Shaikh was apprehended and 65 tubes of the solution were found on him. During interrogation, Shaikh revealed that he used to buy the tubes for Rs 30 a piece and sell them for Rs 50 each. He is said to have told police that many youths are addicted to sniffing the adhesive solution, adding that a tube is emptied onto a piece of cloth and smelled to get high. Shaikh also told police that started selling the adhesive solution as an intoxicant after an accident left him handicapped. Shaikh has several offences against him, police said. Since 2014, he has been involved in nearly 60 offences related to prohibition, arms, assault among others. He was externed in 2015 and 2017. Isanpur police registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and are investigating further.
