A’bad youth with learning disability gets Rashtriya Bal Puraskar

Gandhinagar: Om Vyas, a youth from Ahmedabad with a learning disability, received the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar for his extraordinary achievement on Thursday. President Droupadi Murmu presented the award to the 17-year-old boy in Delhi. The award was presented to mark the occasion of Veer Bal Diwas.
Unable to read or write, Om memorised around 2,000 Sanskrit verses. His achievements were recorded in 18 different record books, including the Limca Book of Records.
An official statement said that a ceremony was organised in New Delhi where 17 children from across the country were awarded the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar for their extraordinary achievements.
Chief minister Bhupendra Patel praised Om's achievements and congratulated him for making Gujarat proud. Om, along with his parents, recently met the CM in Gandhinagar. Patel said that children like Om would inspire other disabled individuals.
Om can recite Sanskrit verses from the Sundarakanda and the Bhagavad Gita. In addition, he memorised hymns such as the Hanuman Chalisa, Shiv Mahimna Stotra, Shiva Manasa Pooja, Ram Raksha Stotra, Shiva Tandava, Gayatri Mantra, Gayatri Chalisa, Sai Bhavani verses, and "Mhari Hundi Swikaro Maharaj" among others.
