Children University teachers accuse registrar of corruption
Ahmedabad: A group of 16 teachers at the Children's Research University, Gandhinagar, have complained to chief minister Bhupendra Patel against the university registrar Amit Jani. They have accused Jani of financial irregularities, misusing his position, causing mental harassment to teaching staff, and violating state govt and University Grants Commission (UGC) norms. The letter written by the teachers on Apr 25 states that in 2022, Jani was appointed as the permanent registrar of the university for five years. However, in the last 1.5 years, Jani failed to adhere to govt and UGC regulations. Though the letter was written in April, no steps have been taken to address the allegations made by the teachers. The letter further states that while other administrative staff receive benefits according to the Sixth Pay Commission, Jani has been deriving financial benefits of the Seventh Pay Commission since his appointment, misusing his authority.Faculty members said that despite the election code of conduct being in force, Jani violated it by undertaking the recruitment process. Children's Research University, recognized by the UGC and holding a 12-B certificate, made arbitrary changes to faculty salaries, leaves, and responsibilities, causing mental stress to staff. Some have also sought relief from the Gujarat high court. In 2023, fixed and temporary staff were given lien benefits and appointed to higher positions, contrary to regulations.Statutes, ordinances, and regulations were prepared and sent for govt approval without prior consent of the governing body and were posted on the university's website before approval, causing mental stress to faculty and students.Considering these issues, faculty members are demanding that the registrar be returned to his original position before his lien period ends and that a new registrar be appointed, as the current one lacks the capability or insight to manage the institution.
