Trader busted for fake company, 1cr recovered

Ahmedabad: In a recent breakthrough, the mobile squad of the state goods and services tax (SGST) department recovered Rs 1 crore from a trader for dispatching goods under the name of a shell company. The incident took place in Gundri village of Banaskantha district last week.
“The mobile squad intercepted and detained a suspicious vehicle transporting jeera near Gundri village.On investigating the papers, SGST officials learnt no e-way bill had been generated for the said stock of goods being transported. Only sales bills were presented along with the goods,” said SGST officials in a statement.
Upon further verification, it was found that the GST number used to generate the e-way bill was fake. Physical investigation of the vehicle set officials on the trail of an Ahmedabad-based trader who had dispatched the goods. tnn
