Three held for bike theft racket as police seize over 50 motorcycles and parts worth Rs 25 lakh in Beed
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Gevrai police in Beed district have arrested three suspects and seized over 50 stolen motorcycles and parts worth about Rs 25 lakh, cracking a major bike-theft and dismantling racket active across multiple districts in the Marathwada region.A team led by Gevrai senior police inspector Kishor Pawar recovered 17 motorcycles, 16 chassis and 30 engines, along with several other spare parts of different makes and models. The operation, conducted between Wednesday and Thursday, also helped detect six bike-theft cases.Beed superintendent of police Navneet Kanwat said the action was part of an intensified drive against property-related offences. "Our teams analysed recent vehicle-theft cases and examined CCTV footage from various locations over the past two months. With the help of technical analysis and surveillance, the suspects were identified and detained. They admitted to stealing at least 30 bikes in the last four months. They had no previous criminal record, which helped them evade police attention," he said. The police identified the arrested accused as Syed Abrar Syed Zainuddin (31), a mechanic from Shah Shaukat Colony near the railway station in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar MIDC; Syed Imdad Hussain Arshad Hussain (22), a plumber from Masoom Colony on Mominpura Road in Beed; and Sheikh Asem Sheikh Mazhar (32), a scrap dealer from Tipu Sultan Chowk near Mauli Mangal Karyalaya in Neknoor, Beed.
"Another suspect linked to the racket is absconding," an officer said.Investigators said each accused had a defined role — from stealing motorcycles to dismantling and disposing of them. Inspector Pawar said, "As per their arrangement, Syed Abrar conducted recce at weekly markets and public places and stole the bikes. He then handed them over to Syed Imdad and another accomplice, who transported them to Sheikh Asem in Neknoor. Asem would strip the vehicle within two hours, separate the parts, erase chassis and engine numbers, and dispose of them quickly."The police are now verifying the original identification numbers and matching them with theft complaints across districts. "We suspect the recovered motorcycles and parts may be linked to cases reported in Beed, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Parbhani and Hingoli. Further investigation is in progress," another officer said.
