AURANGABAD: A week-long workshop on film appreciation began in the department of dramatics, at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) on Friday. It is the second consecutive year that the department has organised the four-credit course in the university campus.
Shashikant Barhanpurkar, head of the department, said that students would learn about the basics of filmmaking through a series of lectures by critics in the film industry.
"Basic aspects like location, character establishment, their relations and resolution through the incidences and happenings of the story would be taught by four experts," Barhanpurkar said.
Around 35 final year students across 41 departments of the university have participated where they have to choose a subject to study apart from their regular curriculum. An examination would also be conducted post workshop after which the credits would be allotted.
Other aspects such as camera angles, importance of shots and treatment given to a film would also be focused on. "Criticism is an important aspect for studying films, especially for drama students to know about the different requirements needed for drama and films for an artiste," Barhanpurkar added.
The university department also plans to introduce a month-long course on film appreciation for its students outside the campus studying in affiliated colleges.
Omkar Deshpande, a student, said that the sessions provided in depth knowledge about the aspects of filmmaking. "Through the workshop I realised that every character has to be minutely designed," he added.
