PILIBHIT: The additional director general of Bareilly police, Prem Chand Meena, has sounded high alert at 54-kilometre-long Indo-Nepal border stretch in Pilibhit on Wednesday in apprehension of Waris Punjab De leader Amritpal Singh’s escape to Nepal after his last location was suspected to be in Delhi on April 2.

According to a senior police officer, the step has been taken to ensure that no meeting or gathering is held in any gurudwara in support of the pro-Khalistan activist and he is not given shelter there.

SP Atul Sharma said, “We are working in active coordination with Sashastra Seema Bal, maintaining high vigil at villages on the Indo-Nepal border stretch and ensuring surveillance in case of any suspicious activity in the adjoining rural belt.”

“Besides, the checking of vehicles enroute to Nepal or those supplying agricultural crops, especially the sugarcane, has been intensified,” SP Sharma added.
