India’s 2nd-biggest stadium to come up near Bengaluru

BENGALURU: In what is being billed as Bengaluru’s biggest sporting infrastructure push in decades, Karnataka on Saturday launched work on a new international cricket stadium and integrated sports complex in Anekal taluk, near Bannerghatta National Park, around 24 km from the city centre.The Rs 943-crore project, spread across 75 acres and being developed by Karnataka Housing Board (KHB), will comprise a cricket stadium with a seating capacity of 80,000 spectators, making it India’s second-largest spor-ting facility after Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which has a capacity of 1,32,000 guests. Apart from cricket, the venue is planned as a multi-disciplinary sports complex equipped with modern infrastructure, advanced training facilities and international-standard amenities designed to host global sporting events and nurture emerging talent.CM Siddaramaiah and deputy CM D K Shivakumar laid the foundation stone for the proposed International Cricket Stadium and Sports Complex at Indlawadi village.Shivakumar described the project as a transformative initiative that would reshape Bengaluru’s sporting ecosystem and open new opportunities for aspiring athletes.
