BENGALURU: A 39-year-old man who complained to police about drug menace in Siddharthanagar, near Jalahalli west, was allegedly attacked by three miscreants with machetes and an iron rod on Saturday.
Vadivelu S (in pic), who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, has given a statement to Gangammanagudi police against Magesh, Anil and Padiyappa, all three residents of Siddarthanagar.
Vadivelu, who is into welding business, has been fighting drug menace in the area for over a year. Based on his tipoffs, police had acted against a few drug abusers. Recently, Vadivelu informed police about the trio who was allegedly selling drugs to youths in the area and spoiling them.
Around 8.45pm on Saturday, Vadivelu and his friend Raju were heading to a tea stall near Samudaya Bhavan in Siddharthanagar, when an armed trio stopped them. The miscreants started shouting at Vadivelu for complaining to police about their activities. “Whether we sell ganja or some other drugs, who are you to complain about us?” Vadivelu quoted the trio telling him.
“When I asked them to make way, Magesh hit me on my head with the machete. Anil hit me on the shoulder with another machete and Padiyappa hit me on the left hand with an iron rod. Later, Magesh started punching me in the face till I fell unconscious. They escaped only after Raju shouted for help,” Vadivelu told TOI. Raju rushed Vadivelu to hospital.
According to Vadivelu, drug users in the area create nuisance almost every day and also harass girls and women. “So, whenever I come across drug-peddling or abuse, I inform police. Patrol police come to the spot and chase away such youths loitering in the area. Magesh and his friends threatened me saying they aren’t scared of going jail,” he said.
Vadivelu is now planning to raise the issue at the police’s public contact programme. Vadivelu has sustained injuries on his skull, shoulder and face.
