BENGALURU: Police are not certain about the motive behind the crime; saffron outfits claimed he was targeted because of his political affiliation. Rudresh R, 35, was mandal president of the RSS Shivajinagar Shakha and secretary of the BJP's Shivajinagar assembly unit. He came under attack around 11.30am when he was returning on his twowheeler from an RSS route march in the vicinity of RBANMS Grounds.
He stopped his ve hicle in front of a photocopy shop, adjacent to Radhakrishna temple on Kamaraj Road. He was talking to friends Kumar, Hari a n d Jai ram when the two bike-bor ne men attacked him.
“The man riding pillion, who sported a stubble, pulled out a machete and struck the man wearing the RSS uniform on his neck.The man fell off the scooter, and blood gushed out of his neck. His friends and passersby tried to catch the attackers. The three friends hurled stones at the assailants, but they sped away,“ an eyewitness, who was coming out of the temple, told TOI.
“The duo didn't stop the bike. They slowed, hurled abuses in Urdu, and the man on the pillion swung the machete at Rudresh,“ Jairam and Kumar said. Police said the bike bore no number plate and both riders were helmetless.
Police have imposed prohibitory orders on areas coming under Commercial S t r e e t , S h i v a j i n a g a r, Bharatinagar and Pulakeshinagar police station limits from 6am to midnight on Monday .
Rudresh's friends put him in an autorickshaw and rushed him to Bowring Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Rudresh was a civil contractor, and also doing dairy business. He was a resident of Milkman Colony in Shivajinagar. He is survived by wife Vidya and two children.
Within minutes of the murder, RSS activists came to the Commercial Street police station, demanding the arrest of assailants.Their demonstration disrupted traffic flow in the neighbouring areas.
T h e c i t y 's t o p c o p s rushed to the Commercial Street police station and held a meeting till late evening. “Rudresh was facing cases over personal disputes. The City Crime Branch and four teams of officers are investigating the case. At this moment, we don't know whether he was murdered because of a personal dispute or for other reasons,“ city police commissioner NS Megharikh said.
