BHOPAL: An IndiGo flight, 6 E-7308, that took off from Jabalpur's Dumna Airport at 8 am on Sunday to Hyderabad was diverted and forced to make an emergency landing at Nagpur Airport at 9:10 am following a bomb threat.
Airport officials said that the emergency landing was triggered by a message discovered on a piece of toilet roll in the flight's washroom, which stated, "Explosion @ 9:00 AM." A crew member found the message and alerted the pilot, who then informed the ATC in Nagpur, leading to the flight's diversion.
After landing in Nagpur, all 69 passengers and 4 crew members were safely evacuated from the aircraft. The bomb threat assessment committee was notified by the MIL security and terminal department.
Probe underway to identify source & motive of hoax bomb threatVarious security agencies, including Maharashtra Police, CISF, bomb squad, and dog squad, carried out an extensive search of the flight and interviewed the passengers and crew members. The luggage inside the flight was also thoroughly inspected.
Following a comprehensive investigation lasting approximately 6 hours no suspicious items were discovered on the plane.
Neeraj Kumar, director of Dumna Airport in Jabalpur, confirmed that Nagpur Airport Authority officials had concluded the bomb threat to be a hoax. However, an investigation is underway to identify the source and motive behind the threat note.
After the investigation concluded, the flight was given clearance to resume its journey to Hyderabad at 3.25 pm, reaching its destination around 5.30 pm.
