Speed breaker jerks make loaded pistol go off many times, 2 on bike hurt in Morena
Bhopal: Two youths tried to pass off an accidental misfire as a firing attack after they suffered three bullet injuries each while crossing a speed breaker on their rickety scooter in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district on Tuesday. The pistol went off repeatedly on Girls School Road and cops initially believed it was part of an attack, only for the CCTV footage to show what actually happened.
Police said the two were travelling on a scooter when the youth riding pillion allegedly took out a pistol and attempted to load it while the vehicle was in motion. As the scooter crossed a speed breaker, sudden jerks reportedly caused the firearm to discharge multiple rounds, injuring both riders.
The injured were identified as Rahul Sikarwar, 22, a resident of Gopalpura, and Nikhil Tiwari, 22, of Purana Chungi Naka area. Both were first rushed to a local hospital and later referred to Gwalior for treatment.
“The youths have a criminal history. And both have sustained three bullet injuries each and have been referred to Gwalior for treatment,” DSP (HQ) Morena Vijay Singh Bhadoriya told TOI.
He added, “Initially they said that it was firing, but CCTV footage cleared things up. The one with the gun sustained bullet injuries in his legs. In panic he moved it up and then three bullets hit the one who was riding the motorcycle.”
Bhadoriya said the condition of both injured youths was being monitored and vital organs had not been damaged. However, the rider suffered bullet injuries in the back and stomach.
“As of now, we are trying to find out where they got the weapon, was it licensed and we’re waiting for the youth to be in a state where we can record their statement,” Bhadoriya added.
