Shimla: The Union ministry of finance has approved an extension for completing the pending works under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY–I) in the remote Dodra Kwar area of Shimla district until March 31, 2027.Sharing the details, public works department minister Vikramaditya Singh on Monday said the approval came after his recent meeting with Union rural development minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi, wherein issues related to strengthening rural road connectivity in Himachal Pradesh were discussed.

Vikramaditya said several PMGSY–I road projects in the high-altitude Dodra Kwar region were delayed due to extremely difficult terrain, severe weather conditions, and a short working season. He further said the time extension would help complete the remaining works and ensure better connectivity for residents of this remote border area, as roads were crucial for transportation, disaster management, medical emergencies, and the supply of essential commodities. The minister also stated that the hill state had already received approval for about 1,500 km of rural roads under PMGSY–IV at an estimated cost of Rs 2,300 crore, which would further strengthen rural infrastructure and boost inclusive development.
