Excluded from Congress leadership meet, Sidhu vents his disappointment on social media

Amritsar: Exclusion from the recent meeting of the Congress leadership with the party's Punjab unit appears to have unsettled Navjot Singh Sidhu. The former president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee in a cryptic video message on social media mentioned: "Jo nahi mila usay dafa kijiyae (Let go of what you didn't get)."The post has renewed speculation about Sidhu exploring new political options, including a possible return to the BJP, as earlier indicated by his wife Navjot Kaur.In a nearly 20-second video, Sidhu is seen sitting in a garden with a cup of tea, surrounded by quiet greenery. His posture is relaxed, his face calm, and almost content. He speaks gently, with a pleasant tone and an easy smile, as if nothing troubles him. Yet beneath the polished words lies a carefully masked displeasure as he says: "Guru, zindagi say thodi wafa kijiyae, jo nahi mila usay dafa kijiyae, har koi nahi hai aapkay qabil, akalay baith kar chai ka maza leejiyae (Guru, be a little loyal to life, let go of what you didn't get, not everyone is worthy of you, sit alone and enjoy your cup of tea)."Sidhu entered the spotlight two days after the Congress high command, including All India Congress Committee (AICC) chief Mallikarjun Kharge; leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi; Congress general secretary K C Venugopal; and general secretary in charge of Punjab, Bhupesh Baghel, held a meeting with Punjab Congress leaders Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Charanjit Singh Channi, Partap Singh Bajwa, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and others at Kharge's residence in Delhi.Sidhu was excluded from the meeting, which reviewed the political situation in Punjab amid Channi's "Dalits being ignored" remarks and persistent reports of factionalism within the party, particularly ahead of the 2027 Punjab assembly elections.People close to Sidhu said he was hopeful of an outreach from the Congress leadership, but the invitation never came, leaving him heartbroken. He was learnt to have spoken at length with his supporters over the phone, and ultimately chose to air his disappointment publicly, doing so in his trademark style without any visible sign of regret in either tone or action.In the recent past, Sidhu's wife Navjot Kaur, who was suspended from the Congress, publicly hinted at the growing proximity to the BJP leaders after posting photographs with senior BJP functionaries, including Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari, and openly expressing admiration for Union home minister Amit Shah.Sources said the possibility of the BJP extending an invitation to the Sidhu couple for a "homecoming" could not be ruled out, particularly as both began their political careers with the saffron party.MSID:: 127390279 413 |
