Haryana sets Dec 2027 deadline for Yamuna clean-up projects
Chandigarh: Haryana chief secretary Anurag Rastogi on Tuesday directed departments to complete all ongoing and proposed sewage treatment, industrial effluent management and pollution-control projects under the Yamuna Action Plan by Dec 31, 2027.Chairing a high-level review meeting, Rastogi said the state government was committed to improving the water quality of the Yamuna and its tributary drains through a coordinated and time-bound strategy. He stressed strict adherence to project timelines and stronger inter-departmental coordination.Officials informed the meeting that projects adding more than 425 million litres per day (MLD) of sewage treatment capacity and over 150 MLD of industrial effluent treatment capacity were at various stages of approval, tendering and execution.Among the key projects reviewed were the upgrade of the 10 MLD sewage treatment plant at Jattal Road in Panipat to handle domestic sewage and industrial effluents, six micro-STPs in Karnal villages, proposed common effluent treatment plants at Nathupur and Kundli in Sonipat, and expansion of the Rathdhana STP.Rastogi also reviewed projects in Gurugram and Faridabad and measures to treat wastewater flowing through the Mungeshpur Drain before it enters Delhi.He directed strict compliance with discharge norms, regular monitoring and stronger enforcement against illegal waste dumping and unauthorised effluent discharge.
