If real culprits will not be apprehended, slogan of ‘Beti Bachao’ will become meaningless: Court

and her assistant Baljinder Kaur, accused of illegal abortaion, the court says “If the real culprits will not be apprehended, then the efforts made by the Government to save girl child, under the slogan of 'Beti Bachao', will become meaningless.”

On February 20, the Panchkula civil surgeon had received video clippings where Panchkula civil hospital gynaecologist Dr Poonam Bhargav and her peon Baljinder Kaur could be seen striking a deal with two Patiala-based men —

. In the videos, Bhargav was seen agreeing to abort a female foetus for Rs 20,000. Both Bhargav and Kaur are on the run. Later, on February 25, the

FIR

was filed against accused Dr Poonam Bhargava and her aid Baljinder Kaur. The complaint was submitted by the Deputy Civil Surgeon to the SHO of Sector 5 police station.

In its detailed order, additional district and sessions judge Narender Sura, said “This court is of the view that there is a racket going on in the Civil Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula and from the facts, it is clear that the petitioners were part of that racket and to unearth the entire abortion racket, custodial interrogation of the petitioners is required and without custodial interrogation, qualitative investigation of the case is not possible”

The order further reads, “From the conversation contained in the CD, it is also clear that a private doctor/hospital was also associating the petitioners and is indulged in this racket and only during custodial interrogation, the petitioners will reveal the names of other persons involved in this scam. If the real culprits will not be apprehended, then the efforts made by the government to save girl child, under the slogan of 'Beti Bachao', will become meaningless”.

Public prosecutor

Kapil Gaur

had submitted that in the present case, complaint has been moved by Deputy Civil Surgeon, Panchkula after conducting of inquiry on receiving video clips of Dr. Poonam Bhargav wherein her act and conduct has been captured and on the basis of said complaint, present FIR has been registered in this case.


The public prosecutor further submitted that in the video clip, Dr. Poonam Bhargav is seen accepting Rs.8000 for conducting MTP and she is also seen while giving tablet and during investigation, it has come on record that Miso- Kare/Misoprostol tablet was given, which is used for terminating pregnancy.
