Mobile tower installation: MC official suspended

Chandigarh: The commissioner of Chandigarh municipal corporation on Monday suspended the executive engineer of road division 3 for authorising the installation of three mobile tower cells on wheels at Exhibition Ground, Sector 34. The temporary installations were allegedly meant to provide network coverage for Diljit Dosanjh's musical performance on December 14. This disciplinary action followed an unanswered show-cause notice issued earlier.The official suspension order said, "Ajay Garg, executive engineer, roads, division No. 3, MC, Chandigarh allegedly granted permission on Dec 13, to M/s Bharti Airtel Limited for installing three mobile tower cells on wheels on a temporary basis to cover the network on Dec 14, at Exhibition Ground, Sector 34, against charges of Rs 20,000 + GST in the account of MC. Garg granted the said permission without obtaining prior approval from the competent authority and without following the proper procedure required for granting such permissions. Whereas a show-cause notice was served on the said officer with the direction to submit the reply to the same within three days, nothing in this regard was heard from the officer concerned. Now, therefore, the undersigned being the appointing authority, in exercise of the powers, places Ajay Garg, executive engineer, under suspension with immediate effect."For the duration of his suspension, Garg must report to the office of joint commissioner-I, MC, which will serve as his headquarters.
