ABOHAR: A 32-year-old man died after his licensed pistol accidentally went off in his pocket while he was getting up from a sofa, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Tuesday at the residence of Harjinder Singh, where celebrations were being held following the election of his father, Darshan Singh, as a panchayat samiti member, reported PTI.
According to police, Harjinder was getting up from a sofa when the loaded pistol went off, with the bullet hitting him. Family members and guests immediately rushed him to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV footage. After a post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family.
Police said further action will be taken after probe.
