Chennai Metro Rail to withdraw paper-based group tickets

CHENNAI: Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) will discontinue the issuance of paper-based group tickets at ticket counters starting March 1 as part of its transition to digital ticketing.

Currently, passengers purchasing group tickets for 20 or more travellers at metro counters receive a 10% fare discount. With this change, group ticketing will move entirely to the CMRL mobile app, where passengers can avail themselves of a QR-based group ticket with a higher discount of 20%.

CMRL stated that this move is aimed at promoting digital adoption and streamlining ticketing services for commuters.
