CHENNAI: The Chennai city police on Wednesday arrested a fake IPS officer in Peravallur on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, police teams narrowed down on the fake police officer when he tried to cheat a businessman involved in a land dispute. Police identified him as V Bala Manikandan,a resident of Kolathur.
Police said Manikandan, an engineering graduate, had worked in a private company.

Initial inquiries revealed that Manikandan posed in the neighbourhood as a deputy commissioner of police and some of the neighbours saw him wearing the police uniform.
"We are inquiring whether he had cheated other people," a police officer said.
Police personnel conducted a search at his house in Vetri Nagar in Kolathur and recovered the fake police uniform, IPS badges, lanyards and caps. Police said even his family members thought he was a police officer.
Bala Manikandan reportedly attempted the union public service commission (UPSC) exam, but failed.
