Chennai: A 32-year-old guest worker who took up a job at a restaurant in Santhome was electrocuted early on Monday morning after he came in contact with a live wire.
The Fore Shore Estate police identified the deceased worker as Biswanath Jamatia of Tripura. He had been working at the restaurant for the last one year.
On Monday morning as Biswanath was washing dishes at the restaurant, he allegedly came in contact with a live wire hanging loosely from a light fixed on the wall.
Police said Biswanath fell to the ground unconscious.
Other employees rushed him to the Government Royapettah Hospital where doctors declared him dead after an examination. His body was then sent for postmortem.
Upon information, the Fore Shore Estate police registered a case, and an investigation was started. Police said that the dead worker’s family members in Tripura had been informed about the incident immediately.
