‘Human faeces’ in overhead water tank turn out to be honeycomb

VILLUPURAM: Tension prevailed at K R Palayam in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday after rumours spread that some miscreants had dumped human faeces in an open overhead water tank in the village.

District officials, including the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board officials, swung into action and drained the water tank only to find a honeycomb inside.

VCK candidate for Villupuram reserved parliamentary constituency under the DMK-led alliance D Ravikumar confirmed that a honeycomb was found in the tank and clarified that human faeces were not dumped in the tank. He lauded district collector C Palani for his timely action in explaining the fact.

Ravikumar appealed to all sections of people including the media to deal with incidents that may trigger social tension in a sensitive manner as a by-poll is due in Vikkravandi assembly segment after the death of DMK MLA N Pugazhenthi in April this year.

It may be recalled that some miscreants had dumped human faeces into an overhead water tank in a dalit colony in Vengaivayil village in Pudukottai district in December 2022. The government has ordered a CB-CID probe into the incident.
