The man stole 1.5 kg of gold, diamond jewellery weighing 50 carats, Rs 10 lakh in cash, three luxury watches and a mobile phone from the house of SMH Sulaiman, 67.

The arrested Nepali national, identified as Chandra Pareyar, 31, was a former driver of Sulaiman, police said.

The burglary came to light on Jan 3 when Sulaiman returned home after being out of station since Dec 21. He lodged a complaint with the police.

The police identified Chandra Pareyar with the help of CCTV footage. Investigators found that he had plotted the burglary with his accomplices. Police said Chandra’s familiarity with the house had helped him break in and steal valuables. He was remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday.
Gold jewellery weighing 14.3 gram was recovered from him.
