Tamil Nadu assembly speaker says no disqualification action against 21 rebel AIADMK MLAs who supported TVK in trust vote

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu assembly speaker JCD Prabhakar on Tuesday said that no disqualification proceedings would be initiated against the 21 AIADMK MLAs who voted against the party whip's directive.

They were among the 25 legislators who voted in favour of the TVK government during the confidence motion. The other four MLAs have resigned from their posts and joined the TVK.





“After receiving a letter from AIADMK General Secretary Palaniswami stating that he had accepted the apologies of the 21 MLAs for voting against the party whip and requesting that no action be taken against them under the anti-defection law, I have decided not to proceed against them,” the Speaker said, referring to a communication from the AIADMK leader dated May 13.
