High Road when police on patrol tried to intercept the vehicle. As he sped away, constable V Manikandan chased and stopped him.

When Manikandan asked him the reason behind escaping, an argument broke out. In the melee, Manikandan attacked Babu who sustained fractures in both hands.

Babu was admitted at Government Stanley Hospital. His family members lodged a complaint at R K Nagar police station. Police registered a case against Babu for violating Section 144. A probe was ordered into the incident when the family members approached the senior police officials. Based on a report submitted, the joint commissioner (north) placed Manikandan under suspension for the attack.
