Vetrivel Yatra: Chennai police stop BJP workers proceeding to Tiruttani

CHENNAI: The Chennai city police on Friday stopped around 100 BJP workers who tried to proceed from the city to Tiruttani in separate vehicles to participate in party’s Vetrivel Yatra that was scheduled to begin from there.
The Tamil Nadu government has not given permission for the yatra.

Police personnel deployed at Nazerethpet on the outskirts of the city stopped the BJP workers’ vehicles.

Party functionaries argued with the cops.
The police allowed the vehicles of BJP state president L Murugan and 20 others to proceed while others returned to the city. No case was registered.
BJP functionaries said Union minister of state for home affairs G Kishan Reddy would flag off the yatra from Tiruttani.
At least 500 police personnel were deployed at Tiruttani to prevent BJP workers gathering in large groups. The Tiruvallur district police have reserved three marriage halls in detain BJP workers.
