The girl -- P Pranavika -- started to save money six months ago to get her and her younger sister a 'pattu pavadai.' Pranavika is the daughter of Tangedco junior assistant T Palaniswami.
Drawing inspiration from her own father, who contributed Rs 500 towards the fund last year, Pranavika donated Rs 1,516.
The Class II student of PSG Children’s School has been keenly following the Covid-19 updates.
Pranavika said, "I know it’s the disease is caused by a virus that spreads from one sick person to another by touch and even air. I also know that if we wash our hands and legs and wear a mask, we can avoid getting infected. People die due to corona."
Palaniswami contributed Rs 500 to the CM Covid relief fund last year and received a certificate for it. “When I showed it to her, she asked if she could also contribute to the fund. I said she could donate from her savings,” he said.
“I saw an advertisement on the television on Tuesday night seeking donations to the CM's Covid-19 relief fund and asked my father. He said it was to the same fund that he had contributed. So I decided to give my money to buy medicines and equipment for the infected people,” she said.
Palaniswami added that he also got a WhatsApp message from
"We asked for a certificate for Pranavika’s contribution hoping it will inspire her friends and her to take up to more such charity initiatives. However, the bank said they would get back," he said.
