BAGESHWAR: A Delhi-based elderly couple was killed and their 47-year-old son critically injured after their SUV plunged into a deep gorge in Almora district on Saturday evening.The accident occurred near Kasan on the Badechhina–Sheraghat motor road in Bhainsiyachhana block when the vehicle lost control on a sharp curve and fell nearly 30 metres onto a lower road, police said. The SUV was badly mangled in the impact. Preliminary investigation indicated loss of control of the vehicle.

The family hailed from Manglapuri in Delhi's Mehrauli area and had come for a vacation in Uttarakhand. They had visited Kainchi Dham earlier in the day and were travelling towards Dharchula–Munsyari when the mishap occurred.Pranab Roy (75) and his wife, Shubhi Roy (72), died on the spot due to severe injuries. Their son, Siddharth Roy (47), who was driving the vehicle, sustained critical injuries.Local villagers were the first to reach the site and alerted the authorities. A rescue team from Dhaulchhina police station, assisted by villagers, carried out the operation.Siddharth Roy was initially taken to a nearby health facility and later referred to a hospital in Almora for advanced treatment, where his condition remains critical.Station in-charge Sunil Bisht said the bodies were sent for post-mortem after completing legal formalities.
