NEW DELHI: Over 750 homebuyers gathered at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi in a peaceful protest, demanding justice for over a decade-long delay in receiving their homes.

The protest was organised by the buyers of Supertech Limited projects, many of whom have been fighting for their rights for five years through various courts and forums including NCLAT, Supreme Court, and RERA.

The protest, led by homebuyers such as Sumit Gupta and Kapil Datt Sharma (Hilltown), Kailash Chandra (Upcountry), Ayog Rastogi, and Chetan Kapoor (Eco Village 3), among others, saw slogans raised against Supertech promoters, RK Arora, Mohit Arora, and Nitish Arora.

Just before the event, a violent attack had occurred on Mahender Kr. Mahindra, a key organizer from Eco Village 1. The attack took place at a time when he was heading for the protest site. It is alleged that Supertech was behind the incident and a complaint has been registered with the police.

Speakers addressed pressing issues, including delayed possession, incomplete projects, registry issues, and a lack of support from the IRP. Homebuyers, many of whom have paid 95 per cent or more for their homes, are stuck paying both EMIs and rent, while some live in incomplete societies with no proper management.

Their key demands included:
  • Support of NBCC with efforts to improve the proposal considering the interests of homebuyers.
  • A forensic audit of Supertech Limited to help NBCC create a robust plan beneficial for all stakeholders (home buyers, bank and authority).
  • Complete removal of the management of Supertech Limited.
  • Arrest of the promoters of Supertech.
  • No cost escalation for existing homebuyers.

At the protest, buyers submitted their demands to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, finance minister Nirmala Sithraman, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, minister of housing and urban affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, IBBI chairperson, law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, NCLAT chairman, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath & Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini.
