Can't arrest Puja Khedkar till Aug 21, Delhi HC tells police

NEW DELHI: Delhi HC Monday granted interim protection from arrest till Aug 21 to former IAS probationer Puja Khedkar, accused of cheating and wrongly availing OBC and disability quota benefits to join service.

Justice Subramonium Prasad issued notices to Delhi Police and UPSC on her anticipatory bail plea. "...the court is of opinion that the petitioner be not arrested till next date of hearing," HC said, adding that Khedkar shall cooperate with the probe. It listed the case for further hearing on Aug 21.

HC asked the police and UPSC to explain why her custody is required in the case when allegations are of "false representation" in a document. "Why do you need her custody? The case appears to be of false representation by her in her form... Where is the question of anybody else being involved that would require her custody?" the HC remarked.
