NEW DELHI: Delhi Police dismantled a fake call centre and arrested 20 individuals, including nine women, for allegedly deceiving people by falsely offering loans under government schemes, an officer stated.
The operation, which took place in Lado Sarai, south Delhi, is believed to have defrauded over 400 victims, with a total cheating amount of Rs 40 lakh. More than 50 victims have been identified across the country.
Deputy commissioner of police (south) Ankit Chauhan said the fraudulent call centre tricked people by promising loans via government schemes and then used the gathered details to transfer money into their accounts.
"The police arrested 20 people, including nine women tele-callers on Monday," said Chauhan.
"A total of 32 mobile phones, 48 fake SIM cards, four laptops, and 23 bank accounts were seized from their possession. Further investigation into the matter is underway," Chauhan added.
