NEW DELHI: A thick layer of smog continues to engulf Delhi, with the
Air Quality Index (AQI) in several areas remaining in the 'Very Poor' category on Sunday morning, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
The AQI was recorded at 328 at New Delhi Railway Station, Chandni Chowk at 349, and Anand Vihar at a 'severe' category with 473.
These alarming figures have left residents concerned, "Pollution is increasing day by day. It is a concerning matter. The people go for morning walks and being exposed to pollution at this hour is concerning."
Another resident stated, "Old cars cause more pollution so the use of those cars should be restricted and the farmers should avoid stubble burning. The athletes are also facing breathing issues."
The Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, operating under the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences, predicts that the AQI is likely to remain in the 'Very Poor' category from Sunday to Tuesday.
The CPCB categorizes AQI between 0-50 as good, 51-100 as satisfactory, 101-200 as moderate, 201-300 as poor, 301-400 as very poor, and 401-500 as severe.
