NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Saturday extended former deputy chief minister
Manish Sisodia's CBI remand till March 6 in the excise policy scam case.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had sought
three more days custody of Sisodia as the AAP leader's 5-day remand ended on Saturday.
Sisodia was produced before special judge M K Nagpal. Senior advocate Dayan Krishnan appearing for him opposed the CBI request seeking an extension of remand.
Opposing CBI's plea, Sisodia's lawyer had said that inefficiency of the agency to complete its probe cannot be a ground for remand and he cannot be asked to incriminate himself.
He also stated that Sisodia's wife's health is very poor and she is technically in vegetative stage, reported PTI.
Sisodia's lawyer said that "non-cooperation" cannot be a ground for custody and opposed the CBI's plea for his remand.
After the order was pronounced, Sisodia told the court that although the CBI was treating him well in its custody, repeated questions were causing mental harassment. The court then asked the CBI not to ask him repeated questions.
Meanwhile, the court said it will hear
Sisodia's bail plea on March 10. It also issued a notice to CBI on the former minister's bail plea
The Aam Aadmi Party staged a protest and raised slogans amid heavy security in and outside the Rouse Avenue Courts premises.
Teams of Delhi Police, Rapid Action Force (RAF), and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were deployed outside the CBI headquarters.
The former deputy chief minister was arrested on February 26 in connection with the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped liquor policy for 2021-22.
